MISSING FAIRFIELD 83-YEAR-OLD FOUND IN WESTERN NY
July 13, 2011
An 83-year-old Stillson Road man, missing for a day after he failed to show up for a noontime meeting Tuesday in Bridgeport, was found Wednesday.
Shortly after Fairfield police issued a statement Wednesday seeking the public's help in finding Joseph Maloney, they announced that he had been found in Allegany, N.Y., with the use of the local Police Department's license plate reader.
Maloney was in good health, police said, and arrangements were made for his return to Fairfield from the town in western New York State.
No explanation of why Maloney may have traveled to the town not far from the Pennsylvania border was made public.
Maloney had talked to his daughter at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, police Sgt. Sue Lussier said Wednesday, and that was the last time he was seen or heard from until he turned up in Allegany. He was driving his two-door, gray 2008 Mazda 3.
Police said Wednesday that Maloney does not have any medical problems and or taking any medications, but he recently had brain surgery.
"He was supposed to go to the St. Vincent's Foundation Center at noon and never arrived," Lussier said. According to the report, Maloney is "very strict" with his schedule and his disappearance was considered highly unusual.
